What does the guest experience at Sandals Regency La Toc look like after reopening?
Saint Lucia has been named recently as one of the safest places to travel in the world by the World Health Organization. They‘re in the top eight, and that is definitely a vote of confidence regarding health and safety for anybody who’s concerned about getting away.
Since they reopened on August 31, it has been absolutely awesome for them to get the property up and running. Being able to bring 700 team members back to work and receive guests with all that’s going on, is a true blessing.
Of course, there are changes, but this is the new normal. They are really committed to all the platinum protocols, which include:
- the airport lounge facilities
- private transfers’ service
- room cleaning
- accommodation sanitation
- social distancing
- temperature checks
- obligatory mask wearing for staff
- increased access to handwashing stations
- and so on
They have added almost 90 hand sanitizing stations which are around the resort so that the guests don’t have to search to accomplish the required protocols. Team members wear masks for their own safety and the safety of the guests.
Everyone is completely impressed by the cleanliness that is being followed. Every time a guest sits at a table or sits at a beach chair and they move, the entire place gets sanitized whether with a spray or a fogger.
From landing to coming to the resort, the following steps are what a guest would go through.
The most important thing is having a negative PCR test; this is the only testing that the government of St Lucia accepts at this point.
Once you land at the airport, you have multiple stages to go through: meeting the nurse, getting a temperature check, hand sanitizing, and then going through immigration and customs.
Once you’re done with the first steps and you’re cleared you come into the Sandals Airport Lounge where guests have their drinks and snacks, there’s a private restroom and it’s the beginning of the Sandals hospitality that frequent travellers to Sandals have grown to love.
After this, all the transportation that’s at the airport is geared towards Sandals because they are currently the largest resort that is open. Transfers are already waiting for guests well before they even arrive in the lounge so the experience is not lengthy at all.
As soon as they get to the resort the only thing that they will go through is a temperature check and then they receive that beautiful cold towel (it’s extremely refreshing in the warm humidity), and the glass of champagne, and then they are off to their room.
When they reach their room there is a seal on the door and that certifies that the room went through all of the multiple layers of protocols they have and that involves using six different cleaners in the room, each geared towards different touch points.
The last thing they do during the cleaning process is fogging the entire room with an approved cleaner and after that, they seal the room. Those airborne cleaners reach all of the difficult to reach corners of the room. The seal on the door of the room can only be opened by the guests who actually enter the room, giving them the reassurance that all of the protocols have been followed.
There are some things that they used to do at Sandals Regency La Toc before Covid-19, such as cleaning the water activity equipment like paddle boards, kayaks, etc which are now carried out right in front of the guests, adding transparency to their dedication for their guests’ safety. The only difference is that now they’re bringing it from behind closed doors to a visible area. Again, they want guests to see for themselves that extra care is taken for the comfort and security of guests and staff alike.
Concerning the restaurants, all of them are open and are a la carte which doesn’t mean you are limited to what you can order, in fact, you can try a number of different dishes if you wish. The protocols require you to make reservations ahead of time which allows social distancing according to the capacity of the restaurant and it also facilitates contact tracing.
Although we mentioned social distancing, in the restaurants they didn’t have to do much change since it’s all set up for couples and there’s already lots of space between tables, creating a private and romantic feel. Sandals Regency La Toc has always aimed to create this sense of atmosphere in their spaces, so very little had to be changed to accommodate the new measures.
An interesting aspect of this unfortunate pandemic is that sea life has come back in record numbers due to the fact that fewer cruise ships are sailing around Saint Lucia. It’s unbelievable to see the amount of fish, lobsters, octopus that every person that goes out diving can appreciate.
Even despite the pandemic, the feeling of the Caribbean is back. Team members are happy to be back to work. Guests are happy to get away on holidays again, without the stress of daily life back home. Apart from protocols, all the rest of the guest experience is normal; the beach is there, the sun is there, the drinks and food are there to be served.
